OpenGALEN is a not-for-profit organisation to license the key technology components of GALEN to third parties, under open source.

The motivation behind GALEN (which results a decade of research and development funded by the European Commission) is to find ways of storing detailed clinical information, about patients, in a computer system so that clinicians are able to store and review clinically relevant information (at a level of detail relevant to them) and computers can manipulate what is stored, for retrieval, abstraction, display, comparison, etc.
