TheOpenCD

The OpenCD is a collection of high-quality Open Source Software. All of the programs run under Windows; the disc is intended to be an Open Source showcase. New users can try out Open Source software in the comfort of their own, familiar operating system, rather than having to take the drastic step of reformatting their hard drive to install Linux.

UNESCO portal

Portal on the UNESCO site with over 400 links to free software resources, documents on open source and free software, and many other goodies.

The PalmOS Open Source Portal.

A wide range of open source applications to download and install on Palms, Handsprings, and other PDAs using Palm OS.

Individual applications

OpenOffice.org

OpenOffice.org is both an Open Source product and a project. The product is a multi-platform office productivity suite. It includes the key desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suites. OpenOffice.org also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office.

Localizations of OpenOffice.org are available in 27 languages with more being constantly added by the community. OpenOffice.org runs stably and natively on Solaris, Linux (including PPC Linux), and Windows. Additional ports, such as for FreeBSD, IRIX, and Mac OS X, are in various stages of completion. While available from the website, it is a large download and alternative sources include the 'free' disks on many commercial computer magazines.

Bazaar - MySQL Educational System

Bazaar is a multifunction system that does Web Conferencing, IRC chat, link management, and sgml publication (for the ICAAP system). Bazaar uses MySQL at the back end and features customizable interfaces, API, multiple languages and a host of other features.

PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor

PHPis a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. PHP is a project of the Apache Software Foundation.

PostNuke Navigation

PostNuke is a weblog/Content Management System (CMS), similar to PHP.

Phoenix Project

Phoenix is a redesign of the Mozilla browser component, similar to Galeon, K-Meleon and Chimera, but written using the XUL user interface language and designed to be cross-platform.
